Unexpected forecast for magnetic storms - what to expect today.

On Thursday, July 17, the Earth will not be affected by strong magnetic storms. The geomagnetic field will fluctuate from a quiet to an unstable level throughout the day, and significant disturbances are not predicted. This is reported by the portal meteoprog.

In the last 24 hours, the sun has shown low activity - only four class C eruptions were recorded. Such phenomena have no significant impact on the Earth's magnetosphere.

Despite the overall stability, astronomers note that the probability of a medium-strength (M-class) eruption remains at 50%, while the probability of a strong (X-class) eruption is at 5%. At the same Time, the risk of even a minor geomagnetic storm is estimated at 5%, while the risk of a serious storm is only 1%. Currently, 65 sunspots are being observed on the sun's surface - this is a moderate value typical for a phase of increased but not extreme solar activity.

We remind that astrophysicists published a forecast for magnetic activity in July 2025.
