Housing subsidy in Poland: how to receive financial assistance for rent payment.

In Poland, municipalities provide financial assistance to people who are in a difficult situation in the form of housing support. This subsidy is designed to cover expenses for rent and utilities for those who meet certain criteria.
To receive housing assistance, one must meet three main requirements. First, the applicant must have the right to housing - be a homeowner, a tenant, or have a court decision regarding the right to alternative or social housing. Second, there are restrictions on monthly income: for single citizens, the income must not exceed 40% of the average salary, and for multi-person households - 30% of the average salary. Third, the area of housing must meet established norms depending on the number of persons in the household.
The average size of assistance ranges from 250 to 380 zlotys per month; however, in certain cases, this amount may vary, experts in social security note. This supplement is not taxed, making it attractive for recipients.
Housing assistance covers expenses for rent, utilities, maintenance and repair costs, as well as waste collection. Payments are transferred directly to the property manager or another authorized person, ensuring targeted use of the funds.
To apply for the subsidy, it is necessary to contact the commune office or the social welfare center at the place of residence and provide the necessary documents: income declaration for the last three months, documents confirming housing expenses, the latest electricity bill, and income statements from all adult residents of the apartment. The decision to grant assistance is made by the head of the commune or the mayor of the city, and in case of refusal, the applicant can appeal to the local government commission within 14 days.
