Pear prices are falling sharply in Ukraine: reasons named.


This week, prices for Ukrainian-grown pears have declined, report analysts from EastFruit project.
According to their data, as of today, local pears are sold wholesale for 15-30 UAH/kg ($0.36-0.73/kg), which is on average 25% cheaper than last week.
Experts explain this price dynamic by the seasonal increase in pear supply on the market amidst relatively low demand from wholesale companies. The price decline for pears has been observed since mid-August of this year.
In the current season, pear yields in Ukraine have increased thanks to mild weather conditions in winter and spring. This has led to increased production and negatively impacted prices. An exception is Vinnytsia region, where over 30% of the future fruit harvest was lost due to spring frosts and hail.
Compared to other countries in the EastFruit monitoring region, Ukraine now sells the most affordable pears. This indicates a growing interest among Ukrainian gardeners in growing these fruits over the past few seasons.
It is worth noting that the current wholesale prices for pears in Ukraine are on average 32% lower than in the same period last year.
