Since September 1, 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church have switched to the new Julian church calendar, so now all non-moving holidays with a fixed date are celebrated 13 days earlier. Therefore, in 2024, parishioners of these churches celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15.
This day marks the end of the Assumption fast. The holiday is also called the First Pure or Assumption.

After a two-week Assumption fast, on August 15, Orthodox Christians and Greek Catholics celebrate one of the twelve major holidays of the church year - the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
