Ryazan Oil Refinery Stops Working After Drone Attack - Reuters.

Ryazan Oil Refinery Ceases Operations After Drone Attack
The oil refinery in the city of Ryazan, Russia, is forced to stop its operations following a successful attack by Ukrainian drones, reports Reuters. This attack caused a fire in a strategically important primary oil distillation unit, leading to a complete halt in processing at the plant.
According to the agency, the Ukrainian command confirmed that the Ryazan Oil Refinery was attacked on Monday using drones. Local observers recorded several powerful explosions in the vicinity of the plant.
Reliable sources have reported that partial restoration of the refinery's operations may occur within the next few days, while complete recovery will take significantly longer.
Consequences of the Attack on the Oil Refinery
The fire caused by the attack damaged the main primary oil distillation unit of the refinery (CDU-6), which has a capacity of about 170,000 barrels of oil per day. This accounts for nearly half of the total processing capacity of the plant.
Due to the repair of the damaged unit, the management of the refinery is considering starting up alternative primary distillation units - CDU-4 and CDU-3, which have a total capacity of about 145,000 barrels per day.
The Ryazan Oil Refinery is of great importance to the Russian energy infrastructure. In 2024, the refinery processed 13.1 million metric tons of crude oil, accounting for about 5% of the total volume of the Russian oil refining industry.
Consequences for Russia
Experts warn that further attacks on the Russian oil refining sector could seriously impact the country's financial resources and the funding of its military machine. The Russian oil refining industry is a primary source of revenue for the Russian state budget.
