NATO foreign ministers will meet in Antalya
NATO foreign ministers will gather in Antalya, Turkey, on May 14-15 for an informal meeting (NATO iFMM), hosted by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
This meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for additional consultations ahead of the NATO leaders' summit, which will take place in The Hague on June 24-25. Representatives from all 32 NATO member states will participate in the event.
In the evening of May 14, foreign ministers, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and other senior officials plan to participate in a social event organized by Fidan.
During the informal session of the North Atlantic Council, which will take place on May 15, foreign ministers will discuss key issues and potential solutions for the upcoming summit.
Among the main topics will be discussed issues related to the alliance's operations and European security. It is expected that Fidan will emphasize the importance of strengthening NATO's unity and the necessity of solidarity in the fight against terrorism in his speech.
Turkey has already confirmed its commitment to increase defense spending and will continue to support peace and stability in the region and the Middle East.
Turkey's role in NATO structure
Turkey, which has been a NATO member for over 70 years, plays a key role in the alliance's defense structure. The country bases NATO's land forces command in Turkey and hosts the rapid reaction corps headquarters in Istanbul. It is one of the largest contributors to NATO's command and force structure.
