China responded to Russia's desire to change nuclear rhetoric.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China responded to new threats from Russian leaders regarding nuclear weapons, reminding Moscow that a nuclear war is impossible to win. The MFA of the PRC called on all parties to exercise restraint to reduce strategic risks.
We have seen this message (with Ryabkov's statement – ed.). China has repeatedly emphasized that nuclear weapons cannot be used to start a nuclear war, nuclear weapons cannot be used to conduct combat operations
Chinese MFA spokesperson Mao Ning responded to the statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov about changes in Moscow's nuclear doctrine. Russia plans to expand the list of cases when it can use nuclear weapons.
Mao reminded that in January 2022, the leaders of the five nuclear states (the USA, China, the UK, France, and Russia) issued a joint statement emphasizing that a nuclear war is impossible to win and should not be allowed to start.
Currently, it is important for all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, and jointly work on reducing strategic risks through dialogue and consultations. Only in this way can the situation be calmed and the conflict de-escalated.
