EU begins to impose million-dollar fines on Hungary for decision regarding asylum seekers.

Hungary has not started to comply with the decision of the EU Court, according to which it was awarded a fine of 200 million euros. Now the sum of the fine and interest are being collected from it. This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari. He noted that Hungary did not respond to the EU Court's decision within the specified deadlines, so the European Commission plans to deduct the fine from future payments from the EU budget to Hungary. The EU Court's decision provides for a fine and interest for each day of ignoring the decision.
Hungary was supposed to respond by last Friday but did not. Therefore, the European Commission is starting the procedure for collecting the fine and interest. Budapest has 45 days to pay the fine – 93 million for 93 days. The EU Court's decision concerns Hungary's deviation from EU procedures regarding asylum and deportation of illegal migrants.
