The US is set to demand that President Volodymyr Zelensky explain in detail his strategy for strikes on Russian territory before lifting restrictions on the use of long-range weapons provided by the United States and its allies. During a visit to Kyiv on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Leamy planned to ask Zelensky and his team to outline their plan for the coming year. They want to understand the objectives Kyiv wants to attack and why, as well as how Western support can help achieve these goals. The decision on strikes against Russia, as indicated by Bloomberg sources, is most likely to be made after a meeting at the UN at the end of the month. The US has so far been opposed to such strikes, but the UK indicates readiness to allow Ukraine to load Storm Shadow missiles of British production for attacks on military targets in Russia. Some NATO allies insist on allowing members bordering Ukraine to shoot down Russian missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace before they enter their own. However, there is currently no consensus in the alliance on this issue. Ukraine's strategy for strikes deep into Russia, as well as the question of permission to use long-range weapons, remains open for discussion among Ukraine, the US, and their allies. The next meeting between Zelensky and US President Joe Biden could resolve these issues, but the decision will be based on specific circumstances and conditions.
